Information Center of the National Committee for IGBP

The Center deals with a wide field of information related to the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program (IGBP) and surrounding problems.

Center participates in creating of real time information system of metadata type describinmg different information resource and

data bases created and maintained under the Russian branch of the IGBP program.

The information system comprises two units: a linguistic unit and a cartographic unit.

The cartographic unit makes it possible to search for the data bases using an arbitrary point of the required region in the former USSR map, or center for data collection and storage.

The linguistic unit analyses the documents entered and compiles a dictionary of the words from 3 to 8 characters long. Any of them can be used as a keyword. The information file contains the descriptions (metadata) of over 170 data bases (of total of more than 250 available at the Center) in the IDN Directory Interchange Format (DIF) and Russian state GOST formats on the following disciplines:

The Center creates also the collection of original IGBP ISSUES of Russian authors. The Center deals also with a data base on the Caspian Sea region (the project was supported by RFBR, see details here ). Collected data base includes information on underground and surface water regime, seismical regime, block of altimetric and gravimetric data and other relevant data sets. Minor part of the mentioned data is available directly through ftp regime. Data sets are included in the GEO GIS system and, in most cases, are available for users by special request. The project is ongoing now as a part of the Project "Geological Phenomena as a Factor of Change in the Caspian Sea Level" of the National Research Programm "Global Change in Environment and Climate".

Following data bases created at laboratory are accessible to user community.

    You can get Metadata file IGBP.ARJ containing descriptions of the data bases concerning to International Geosphere-Biosphere Program (IGBP) and surrounding problems which are available in different Russian organizations.

    You can get also Metadata file OGGGGN_N.ARJ containing description of the data bases existing in the organizations of the Department of Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry and Mining Sciences of the Russian Acad. of Sci. (DGGGGMS).
